Privacy Policy

1. Information You Provide

• Account details: when you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo.
• Community content: mosques you follow or submit, prayer-time contributions, announcements, family group membership, and messages you send to support.
• Worship data: prayer logs, tasbih counts, Quran progress, zakat and fitra entries, and reminders you create.
• Purchases: if you subscribe to Mihrab Premium, payment is handled entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play — we never see your card or bank details. We receive only your subscription status (plan, start and renewal dates) via RevenueCat, linked to your account so Premium works on all your devices.

2. Information Collected Automatically

• Location: with your permission, we use your device location to calculate prayer times, Qibla direction, and nearby mosques. You can use a manually entered location instead.
• Device & usage data: device model, operating system, app version, language, time zone, and basic diagnostics.
• Analytics: we use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand which features and screens are used, session counts, and approximate (city-level) location derived from IP, so we can improve the app. This is aggregate usage data tied to an anonymous identifier — we do not send your name, phone number, or email to analytics.
• Push tokens: a Firebase Cloud Messaging token so we can deliver prayer and community notifications.
• Advertising identifiers: used by Google AdMob to show ads, subject to your device ad settings.

3. Microphone & Camera

These permissions are used only for the features that need them, and only while you are using them:

• Microphone: Quran recitation practice. Short audio clips are sent to our speech-recognition service to match your recitation, then discarded after processing. We do not store recordings.
• Camera: QR code scanning (mosque/family links) and the halal ingredient scanner. Images are processed for text/codes and are not retained beyond the scan.

4. AI Assistant

When you use the Islamic AI assistant, the prompts you send and relevant context are processed by a third-party AI provider (Google Gemini) to generate a response. Do not include sensitive personal information in your prompts.

5. Alexa Skill

If you enable the Mihrab Azan skill on Amazon Alexa and link it to your Mihrab account:

• We store a token issued by Amazon on your account so we can signal your Alexa routine at prayer times. We never see your Amazon password, voice recordings, or other Alexa data.
• At each prayer time we send Amazon a signal for your virtual "Mihrab Azan" sensor; your routine then plays the azan. We use your saved prayer times only to decide when to send it.
• If you link Alexa before setting up the Mihrab app, the linking page may look up your approximate city from your IP address (via the GeoJS service) to show an estimated next prayer time. This estimate is shown only on that page and is not stored.
• Disabling the skill in the Alexa app unlinks it, and we delete the stored token.

6. How We Use Information

• Provide and personalize prayer times, reminders, and community features.
• Operate accounts, family groups, and mosque following.
• Send notifications you have opted into.
• Show and measure advertising.
• Maintain security, prevent abuse, and improve the app.

7. Sharing & Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only:

• With service providers that process data on our behalf (see Section 7).
• Within community features you choose to use — for example, content you contribute to a mosque or share in a family group is visible to other members of that group.
• When required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the service.

8. Service Providers

We rely on trusted third parties, each with their own privacy policies:

• Google Firebase (authentication, database, messaging, hosting).
• Google Analytics for Firebase (usage and feature analytics).
• Google Sign-In.
• Google AdMob (advertising).
• Google Gemini (AI assistant).
• Google Maps / Places (mosque discovery and maps).
• AlAdhan API (prayer-time calculation).
• GeoJS (approximate location on the Alexa linking page).
• Amazon Alexa (optional Alexa skill).
• RevenueCat, Apple App Store and Google Play (Premium subscriptions).
• Our hosted speech-recognition service (Quran recitation matching).

9. Data Retention

We keep your account and worship data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize the personal data associated with it, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes. Some data may persist briefly in backups before being overwritten.

10. Your Rights & Choices

• Access and update your profile from the in-app Account screen.
• Delete your account and associated data from Account → Delete Account.
• Revoke location, microphone, or camera permissions at any time in your device settings.
• Control notifications from your device or in-app settings.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (such as access, correction, deletion, or portability) under laws like the GDPR or CCPA. Contact us to exercise them.

11. Children's Privacy

Mihrab is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). Kids Mode is a supervised in-app experience controlled by a parent or guardian and does not create a separate account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will remove it.

12. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit and access controls, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. International Transfers

Our service providers may process your data in countries other than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, through an in-app notice.
